If you were to do a strict comparison of themes, I'd say the slip is kinda the opposite of TDS. TDS starts out violent and such, thus starting the downward spiral until suicide. The slip starts with being sick of everything wrong with the world and wanting to escape it through possibly suicide, but it's mostly just a metaphor (imo) of going crazy thinking of all the world's problems and the constant need for social acceptance. In the end the protagonist (usually assumed to be Trent, which makes the most sense,) comes to terms with life and learns to accept the world has and always will have a lot of issues.

Other than that I feel every album is fairly self-contained, but if you listen to them all in sequence you see a sort of evolution, almost like a series of novels where every book takes place in the same setting but the main character is always a different person. The story is completed eventually, but you've experienced all these amazing points-of-view along the way.
